Police crackdown on metal thefts – Is your business prepared?

Theft of metal across the country is said to be worth £360m per year and is increasing at an alarming rate. This illegal industry is being targeted by 38 police forces. The stolen metal includes drain covers, metal from church roofs and TELEPHONE CABLE. In recent months Green telecom clients have reported ‘no dial tone’ on their lines and this has been the direct result of lengths of large multi-core cable being stolen from the BT Openreach network. In some cases this can take up to a week to replace leaving clients with no telephone service.

Green Telecom advise clients to be prepared for these instances and have a short term disaster recovery plan in place. In most cases we can divert incoming calls to another number (including a mobile) and outgoing calls can be made from mobile phones. If you do not have any spare mobile phones you may wish to consider having a few pay as you go mobiles on standby for both receiving incoming and making outgoing calls to avoid major disruption to your business.

Above all we should all be extra vigilant and report any suspicious behaviour immediately to the local police.
